Lyra is leading in career-connected pathways by facilitating education to meet the growing demand for green, climate-centric jobs. Across Colorado's rural landscapes, we are collaborating with schools, students, and local industries to connect learning with real-world climate challenges.
Read about our work in the article from The 74, titled, 'Creating a Climate-Literate Workforce in Colorado, Starting in Middle School', which provides context and highlights our efforts in Yampa Valley, Colorado, to create initiatives like the Climatarium hubs and the Seal of Climate Literacy.
Building Climate-Connected Learning Hubs
Through initiatives like the Climatarium, we connect climate education starting in the classroom, creating career-connected learning opportunities for students across Colorado. The Climatarium hubs, including five rural collaboratives in regions such as Colorado's Yampa Valley, bring together schools, industry leaders, and policymakers to develop climate-related education pathways. By equipping students with the skills needed for green jobs and supporting local industries, the Climatarium hubs help students explore and pursue diverse career options. They also enhance community resilience to climate change through innovation and youth leadership.
Recognizing Climate Literacy
Another way our work is supported is through the Seal of Climate Literacy Diploma Endorsement, established by Senate Bill 24-014, which recognizes high school students who pursue climate-related subjects and experiences. This endorsement prepares students for careers in expanding areas like solar energy, technical systems, and policy while also showcasing their climate comprehension to employers, educators, and community members.
Our approach empowers local communities and supports school districts by driving reforms that meet regional economic and environmental needs and encourage communities to seek new experiences. Our initiatives help students both address and actively shape responses to climate change.
